you know you (insert word) too much when you…

25 09 2009

1. SHOP

- go to kenyalang and end up with a whole bag full of stuff. really pretty, cheap but completely unnecessary stuff.

- want to buy fake make-up to decorate your room (*ahem* ring a bell, eva wong? :D )

- think that starving to save money (to shop) is wholy acceptable.

- spend 10 minutes in a dinky stationary shop and end up buying 3 lanterns.

- buy smth you don’t need/don’t think is nice just because its cheap (cue dkny purse)

- hyperventilate when you see a shop selling everything for rm 15 (<3 sungai wang. yes, just call me lala chieng)

- must buy smth from the discount rack (so beng lynn! :D )

- realise that you empty bag you brought back, that can contain 30 kg worth of things, is now, nt so empty anymore.

(yes dear shoppers of the world. feel guilty now)

2. WATCH TV

- can recite the schudule for all the shows on axn and the hallmark channel.

- start speaking like certain characters in the series that you currently watch! (him nice. him don’t bite!)

- feel super bored the moment there is no electricity in the house cos you can’t watch tv/stream shows online.

3. BIMBO

- manis and pedis are a way of life.

- know too much abt hollywood.

- e! = cnn

- perfected the bimbo accent

- can tell someone exactly what happened in the latest ep of gossip girl, but for the life of you, can’t remember what this morning’s ft updates were abt.

- have watched nth but chick flicks (discounting final destination) throughout summer

- leave your storybook entitled “chasing harry winston” behind, and without asking whether or nt it belongs to you, your mother immediately takes it and passes it back to you.

:)

________________________________________________________________________________________

so holidays are amazing, have been and always will be. my brain is just rotting as we speak as it has not been put to much use over the last 3 months (apart from my short stint interning tht is)

its been a really good summer. wouldn’t have changed much. maybe would have travelled more, but i was too lazy to plan anything so ended up spending most of my time in kch :) but it was good.

back to school now. can’t say i’m dreading it, but at the same time, can’t say i’m looking forward to going bck. 3rd yr. how time flies. i’m nt ready to grow up. i want to be a fresher all over again. and maybe some things will have been different.

ever wondered what could have been if you could turn back time?

i do. constantly.

21 things i learnt today.

27 12 2008

1. eating two pieces of fried cempedak is well worth the 30 minutes on the treadmill.

2. in fact, i’d eat four and run for an hr!

3. okay, maybe not.

4. the battle between the tv and calculating my portfolio’s risk is an easy one. the tv always wins. hands down.

5. doing wrk/being assigned wrk during the holidays should be against ones human rights. hmph.

6. besides, there’s no quality in holiday work! hello..profesor di cambridge yang bijaksana ini patut tahu perkara yang basic macam ini, lah.

7. i rather read pages and pages of contract law rather than do my finance project which is far more urgent.

8. i think i may be a masochist. torturing myself by leaving my project super last minute and then i panick and hyperventilate and need to go to jingy for counselling.

9. i have an obsession with bags. i think, no more.

10. massages aren’t fun if the masseuse starts slapping you. like literally.

11. i have too many things to do and not enough time. help.

12. ppl in kuching are mng crazed. buy until there’s nothing left on the table shelf thingy. madness.

13. i can actually shop in kuching. love love love my buys!

14. i get very annoyed when ppl don’t answer my calls. or reply my txts. but more so to calls. although i am constantly doing it to other ppl. i’m sorry. i shall keep my phone with me at all times from now on and always answer all calls/reply all txts unless of course i’m stuck in this ‘oh-so-awesome-and-scintilating’ lecture (nt likely to happen anytime soon)

15.  boys are vainer than girls. or at least more health concious. count of guys in swak club gym this afternoon – 7. count of girls – 1, me.

16. i can’t decide if i can’t wait to go back to cambridge or don’t want to leave home.

17. i love sunday market! all the random food that you get there. i want to eat gigantic blue prawns! yes they do exist.

18. i’m really, deep down inside an antisocial being. oh no. what has cambridge done to me. and all of its other inhabitants for that matter. (does antisocialness ring a bell jing? XD)

19.speaking of which, oh, i love jing and nicks! honestly! they rock my socks! (if i were wearing any that is. its too hot to cover my feet up!)  from helping me drag my bag down to getting me one to taking care of my duvet =)

20. eileen loves me. are you happy now miss lau i don’t crave kfc no more (and i’ve updated my blog with utter nonsense?)

21. christmas leftovers are no fun the 5th time round.

raindrops keep falling on my head

22 09 2008

Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turnin’ red
Cryin’s not for me
‘Cause I’m never gonna stop the rain by complainin’
Because I’m free
Nothin’s worryin’ me

what can be better than rain pouring down outside the window while you are snuggedly buried under the duvet, watching the latest episode of gossip girl with a cup of steaming hot milo in hand, knowing that there’s nth else you need to be doing?

not much more.

pardon me for the erratic blogging, just got back from kl and cambodia. so didn’t have internet.

kl was as usual, tiring, hectic, but fun.

and cambodia you say? well, despite popular belief (thanks to the biggest mouth i know, a certain penangite XD) i didn’t carry a knife around, okay?

it was a really interesting trip, i’m not going to be all cliched and say things like it was life changing and i will never be the same again, but the whole 2 weeks that i was there, did change me and really opened up my eyes/heart to things.

just look at how adorable this boy is. and how intentedly he is paying attention.

and this two were so cute and funny, they started chasing us on the pony cart and then when they finally reached us, if you come near them, they’d run away. or maybe its just cos wy looks too scary.

and they can be real posers too =)

spot the non-cambodian! anyways, see the crowd of kids? all waiting to be ‘flown’. its amazing how little things like that make them so happy and excited! and they keep coming back for more.

and they really love the balloons! i had fun making them into random shapes. well, technically, only two shapes since i can only do dog and sword.

children at the fishing village.. playing with bugs.

basically in the past two weeks, i’ve done things i would have never done, sat on forms of transportation that i would normally only take pictures with, experienced things that i never thought i could and received so much in return.

i’ve learnt that God is completely in control of my life, and no matter how much i try to prepare and anticipate what is to come (yes, a lesson to be learnt from lehmann brothers!) God controls my life, and He knows what is best for me.

i’ve learnt that i should surrender things to Him, and just trust in Him, that He will pull me through anything He takes me to.

i’ve learnt that there are too many things in life that i take for granted. seeing the children there being so happy with the minimal things they have makes me want to count my blessings and just give thanks for everything i have. simple things like clean water and proper clothes to good family and the chance at a proper education.

i’ve learnt that we are not all that awesome and we sometimes just need to ‘lower’ ourselves from the throne our minds put us in. (of course some thrones are higher and grander than others, but yeah, you get the drift)

i’ve learnt that everyone is special in God’s sight. you could be a malnourished, skinny Cambodian child or royalty with too much money to be counted, but God loves us all! every single one of us.

i’ve learnt how to ’serve’ others, just as Jesus did.

i’ve learnt compassion and how to love and care for ’strangers’, just like Paul.

i’ve learnt that i need to humble myself.

i’ve really learnt.

i’m obviously far from perfect, but i’m learning.

and just like to song raindrops keep falling on my head, problems may come, my life may seem like utter crap, but to quote, ‘nothin’s worrying me’ – my life is in His hands =)

and now..

27 08 2008

…miley cyrus!

i listen to hannah montana’s songs! and actually like them!

my 9 year old neighbour likes hannah montana.

*faints*

ok. enough about my childish taste in music. revolting.

anyways, she’s probly going to kill me for this, but here’s amanda! tai tai #1!

and this is tai tai #2, aunty lilian.

and this is audrey teo! singing her heart out.

and this are the two mad-est, weird-est and yet cool-est ppl you’ll ever meet! =) beatrix hii and eva!

(psst, trix, eva.. i think we need to LAY OFF the seafood. it makes us, well. not so normal xD)

and this picture looks too normal, lah.

eileen, my beloved ex-housemate/roomate/girl-whose-slippers-broke-due-to-cockroach-chasing (meaning cockroaches chasing us rather than the other way round!) bullying me. as per usual.

ok, i’m going to get killed by everyone.

but hey.. i’m making a nice tribute to all of you cos you are leaving/have left! leaving poor me in kuching all by myself.

so sad.

its that time of the year again. leaving home season.

i do still have one month tho.

will be relatively busy i suppose. there’s us open to watch! to ease the olympics withdrawal symptoms =)

ooh, go watch this. nadal is so cute and funny. mcenroe is hilarious!

picture perfect?

21 08 2008

was watching one of those nigella shows on channel 711 (no, i’m not an old aunty okay audrey teo?) and she inspired me to bake. and burn my hand (s) in the process. but look at my pretty cupcakes! even if they didn’t taste good (which everyone who ate them said they did xD) they look nice =)

ok, ok. they do look a lot better in the picture i took rather than in real life. photogenic cupcakes, i must say.

and the out of shapeness is due to ‘mechanical failure’ (cupcakeholderdidn’twanttocooperate!)

yeah, and that’s probly the last time i’m going to bake this holiday. i’m so lazy.

on the hunt for that all elusive gold

18 08 2008

what do gold medals at the olympics and malaysia have in common?

nothing!

cos we’ve never even won one.

ok, that was lame. but, gosh.

i mean, good job lee chong wei, ensuring we don’t leave empty handed (yet again) but why can’t we, a country of 28 million not even ocme up with one gold when michael phelps alone can win 8?

i suggest we adopt michael phelps and make him agong of malaysia.

then the next olympics we’ll get a gold for sure.

as you can clearly see, i have been spending way too much of my time watching olympics.

the first thing i do when i wake up is watch olympics, and the last thing i do before i sleep is watch olympics.

i am going to get severe olympics withdrawal syndrome come the closing ceremony.

i have no life you see.

=)

ok, i do.

well, sort of.

went out with audrey and eileen

oh, and i feel really stupid now.

went for a manicure with lilian and amanda, got a lovely french, which is exactly the same as ah lian.

*quote – my nails feel so cllleeannn!*

anyways, i somehow, even after the warning of the lady to ‘be careful’ with my ’somewhat dry’ nails.. i managed to ruin my left thumb =(

was halfway driving, and then my phone rang. so i tried to be smart and started rummaging through my bag. bad move. nail runied =(

all this within 10 minutes of leaving the manicure place.

ah wells.

shall go back some other time for a pedicure when my toenails look more presentable.

ooh, ohh. i forgot to mention!

nadal won the gold! and as of today, world number one,ey!

=)

gone going gone

6 08 2008

have been mia for quite some time.

having what we discovered is called a ‘quarter life crisis’.

gee. does this mean i’ll live till i’m 80?

i think having too much free time on my hands is very disorientating. and it weirds me out.

i guess i should go hang out with friends, i really should.

i guess i should go get another ‘job’, oh yes i should.

i guess i should go do smth productive with myself. i seriously should.

ever wondered what the meaning of life is?

in the words of ewan mcgregor.

“the greatest thing in life is to love and be loved in return”

i guess that is true.

firstly, love between myself and God.

and then there’s family.

and friends.

oh speaking of which.

have you ever wondered what “friend” means?

like exactly what does it take for you to consider one your friend?

is it by the number of minute details you know abt him/her?

or is it the amt of time you spend with each other?

or is it just because you click?

what differentiates friends and acquaintances?

sometimes i think its when you can argue and get mad at someone, it means you are friends.

you get mad, well cos you care i suppose?

ah, enough of this semi-deep nonsense.

olympics is starting reallllllyyy soon!

can’t wait!

enough of this “road to olympics” crap we get on astro.

i want THE olympics.

excitinggg.

oh, and did i mention nadal is world no.1? well, come august 18 that is. but minor detail my friend.

ah yes.

and today i promise myself, and all you who are reading this that i will START READING the book my dad wants me to read. “the world is flat”.

and also, i hereby swear to read the business news on bbc and the star everyday.

smart-ing myself you see.

haha.

of jetlagness and food

22 07 2008

what i do when i get back.

sleep.

a lot.

not that i haven’t already been sleeping a lot before i got back.

i just sleep more.

except i keep getting woken up by ppl.

first, silly AMANDA TAN who woke me up at 8 smth the day i got back when i only went to bed at abt 4!

silly woman.

and then today my sister who has gotten over her jet lag extremely fast, and demanded to go out for breakfast.

so i’m so sleepy now.

and is it just me, or does everyone else feel that there’s NOTHING to watch on astro?!

everytime i turn on the tv, there’s NTH.

and also, i’m dissappointed with the spring.

then i’ve been told to think relatively, and yes, i have to admit, for kch it is impressive.

we now have not just one, but TWO starbucks okkaayy?

no joke.

=)

have so far met up with lilian and amanda. still more to go!

i survived sitting in lilian’s car.

i’m allliivveee!

xD

i think i should shaddap now before i further embarrass myself with random outbursts due to lack of sleep.

will post smth more interesting and proportional to the ‘intelligent’ being that i am.

hahahahahaha.

be prepared for more nonsense.

oh, and all i feel like doing since i’m home, besides sleeping that is…is eating.

food, oh glorious food.

but everyone back home seems to be on a diet..

and as lilian put it, don’t wanna go gym, but seeing everyone so thin is making me kiasu.

haha.

guess its time i show my face at club gym again.

=(

when the spanish reign supreme

6 07 2008

NADAL WON WIMBELDON!

i’m SO happy!

happy, happy, happy!

did i mention i was happy?

=)

this is awesome after spain’s victory last week in the euro 08. hence. spanish. ruling. supreme.

awweeeessssooommmee.

oh and forgive my lack of vocab, have spent the last 5 hours or so in front of the tv, watching tennis.

tad overdosed, if you ask me.

but he won!

so yay!

nadal with his trophy.

customary nadal victory celebration

awesome shot.

all sweaty and icky, and yet still looking good =)

ok, i think that’s enough nadal photos, or eileen lau will kill me.

(eileen, you want ronaldo ones now? xD)

but here’s one just to annoy you =)

don’t care what you say abt him. you just have bad taste.

anyhoos, am currently in warwick with my family.

yes, we wasted one afternoon watching tennis.

but it was worth it!

had my mum and jil on ‘camp federer’, and the rest of us on ‘camp nadal’.

and we did go to warwick castle in the morning.

the weather was really crappy tho.

rain.

grr.

hate rain.

double grr.

tmr will be going back to my BELOVED cambridge (ooh, yeah. semangat.) to show my parents arnd the place i’ve been calling ‘home’ for the last 9 months or so.

and show them how i have to suffer cycling/walking up castle hill everyday.

=)

then after this off to lake district, paris and then for my sister’s (s) graduation.

(yes, they are both graduating.

have explained this story too many times.

but yeah)

then, back home to kuching!

wee!

wait for me,la all of you to have fun.

lausyness.

and then kl sometime end july (joanne ong, you owe aimi and i a meal!) so meet up all you who are in kl.

anyways, should go sleep. early morning ahead.

ugh.

this is what i don’t like abt travelling arnd.

i have to wake up early =(

boo.

okay, got to get ready to be tour guide tmr.

economics 101

15 04 2008

the greek letter T, tau rhymes with “wow”

if we are willing to rule out ‘kinky tastes’, we can forget about the example given in figure 5.2 *

* otherwise this book might get an R rating

i swear, this was what i read in my economics book.

don’t believe me? go look up varian, pg 27 and 190 respectively.

the guy is just hilarious.

and this has been the highlight of my day.

woo!

exciting isn’t it.

i predict that cooping myself up and what with this ‘hard core’ studying, i will go crazy by thursday.

hence i have to go out on thursday.

even be it wondering arnd town by myself.

i think i have reached my limit for today.

i started reading abt the law of demand (which is like the basic-est of the basic) which states that “if a demand for a good increases when income increase, then the demand for that good must decrease when its price increase”.

simple right?

except i kept reading it as “if a demand for a good increases when income increase, then the demand for that good must decrease when its price decrease“.

and i kept thinking to myself, “this doesn’t make any sense! but varian can’t be lying to me!”

10 minutes or so later after re-re-re-re-reading and pondering, i finally read the right thing.

good grief, i am such an idiot.

how the hell am i going to sit for tripos?

anyways, mu went 5 points clear!

woohoo!

i love heskey for that awesome late minute goal!

and also, ronaldo for that superbly taken penalty! twice!

yupss. this awesome ronaldo.

we are so going to win the championship.

oh, yeah.. and before i get more distracted by ronaldo. here are some pics of wales when i went there for word alive!

view from the train

a picture of the caravan that we stayed in. well, this wasn’t the exact one, but it looked exactly the same!

inside the grand marquee where the main talks and celebrations are held.

people in the our caravan

me being emo.

the traditional “after word alive lunch” at gbk

yups, lazy to post more,la.

besides i have to run off to cook.

toodles!
